Sustainable, animal-friendly, ecological

Albfilz is felt made exclusively for felt saddles. The wool is only washed – not carded – which means significantly more lanolin remains in the wool. This makes this felt even more water-repellent and durable.

The sheep, whose wool is used to make the felt, graze for most of the year, carefully tended by their shepherdess, Mrs. Wiedenmann-Riek, on the meadows of the Swabian Alb, thus protecting this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This helps preserve the juniper heath. Controlled grazing also allows rare native orchids to thrive here.

Since sheep need to be sheared regularly to maintain their health, this felt can also be a good alternative for vegans. At the Ötztal Sheep Wool Center, the wool is washed and then transported to the Offingen felt factory near us. There, it is transformed into top-quality felt according to my specifications and requirements. Transport routes are kept as short as possible to ensure a good CO₂ balance. In Ballmertshofen, we handcraft the felt into saddles, girths, saddle pads, dog and cat beds, bags, and much more.

I'm so happy that this felt project has now become a reality. Thank you to my reliable partners who embarked on this adventure. Now we can present a truly unique product. All the hard work has paid off!

Colors

We currently have the following colors in stock in 3.5mm thickness: black, chocolate brown, caramel, off-white, aqua, midnight blue, plum, pumpkin, ruby, emerald, meadow, fern, and forest. All colors cost an additional €45 per saddle. More colors in 6mm thickness will follow this year. We are happy to consider your requests! We also send color samples, as the colors are difficult to accurately represent in photos.

A notice:

Since our felt is a natural product, color variations are possible. For this reason, returns are not accepted. We would be happy to send you color samples.
